Eli Sky understands that each person who comes to see her is a unique individual, with individual needs. She knows that most people are likely to feel uncomfortable about approaching a psychologist / counsellor and that they want results in the shortest time possible. Eli works collaboratively and sensitively with clients who set the pace and direction of their own treatment. People develop uniquely and tapping into their innate wisdom and experience and applying recognized and effective techniques allows change to occur safely and in the direction that clients desire. Non-judgementalism, respect and support are cornerstones of her approach and assist clients to forge purposeful, meaningful and enjoyable lives.
Eli has worked as a psychologist since 1992 and counsellor counsellor/coach since 1988. She uses various techniques matched to the needs of clients. She has been trained to use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Schema Focussed Therapy (SFT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Systems Theory / Brief Solutions Focussed Therapy for couples and families.
She is self- taught in Play Therapy for children, adolescents and adults and in the use of Narrative Therapy.
Eli also has extensive Forensic training and experience since 1996, to work with individuals and to facilitate groups to address substance abuse, violent and sexual offending behaviour, poor motivation for change, general offending behaviour leading to incarceration, maintenance programs. Eli has managed, trained and supervised other professionals to work with offenders individually or to facilitate groups to address factors that lead to criminal behaviour. She has written manuals to address sexual offending behaviour for medium and high risk offenders as well as preparatory and maintenance programs, including a program for some Indigenous Australians. She has also provided training for Police and Custodial Officers.
Eli is committed to continuous learning and ensures she attends numerous workshops, seminars or conferences to keep up to date with current trends and research so that she can provide her clients with the best possible service.
Through discussion, exploring issues, canvassing options, clarifying values, collaboratively setting goals, supporting changes in behaviour, feelings and thinking patterns, coaching, providing work to take away to do between counselling sessions, evaluating progress, referral to other services when required. Sometimes she uses psychometric testing and continuous follow up measures to check progress objectively as well as relying on a client’s self report.
